Europe by in large restricts the construction of transmission power lines near homes. Elsewhere, the record is less clear.

(See above links for more information) International EffortsWe are not alone. The worldwide struggle against EMF has been going on for years. Because of health concerns, Spain, Norway, Sweden, the UK, and Australia now prohibit the construction of power lines within 300 feet of homes. The Japanese National Institute for Environmental Studies and the National Cancer Center, in midterm analysis of a three-year survey project, have concluded children who are often exposed to such electromagnetic waves, emitted from high-voltage power lines and some household appliances, are on average more than twice as likely to get leukemia. The Minnesota Department of Health has previously reported this study found no health effects. (Scroll to the bottom of the page.) The UK now prohibits the construction of Transmission Power Lines in residential neighborhoods without the expression permission of the UK's Secretary of State.
